Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park is the closest Park to Dar es Salaam and referred to as the Gateway to the Southern Circuits. The Selous Game Reserve joins onto this park in the south. The Ruahu Reserve is approximately a 4 hour drive south west from Mikumi. Mikumi National Park covers 3237sq km and lies within the Mkata River plain and bordered by the Uluguru Mountain Range to the east and the Rubeho Mountains on the west, an area of lush vegetation which attracts many elephants and buffaloes. Open grasslands dominate the plains which eventually merge with Miombo woodland. Wildlife is abundant with giraffe, hartebeests, wildebeests, wild dogs, as well as smaller mammals and reptiles.
